He was 90. Known as Dick, Mr. Grapes was the youngest of nine children in his family. He attended Col. Payne Elementary School and Felton Grammar School and graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1943. He served as a radio operator and yeoman aboard the USS Miami in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked in sales for the paper and packaging industry for over 50 years with Hubbs & Howe Company, and later with Chudy Paper.
